This 28-kilometre loop in the Kahurangi National Park was another highlight of 2020.
Starting at Flora Carpark, the track leads past Gridiron Shelter, Salisbury Lodge, Gordon's Pyramid, and Mt Arthur Hut before returning to the starting point.
I spent one night up there in a tent. I chose not to stay in the huts — the sense of adventure would have been different.
The following day, dense fog closed in. At times I could no longer see the marker poles and nearly lost my way.
