The scene lies along the track near Harwoods Hole on Tākaka Hill, within the Abel Tasman National Park.

Harwoods Hole is New Zealand's deepest vertical cave shaft. The surrounding forest is high-altitude native bush, dominated by beech trees.

Thick mosses and ferns cover the marble rocks and roots, especially along the final approach. The ground softens underfoot, and the forest closes in.
